Door Keys

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of door locks do these keys fit?

Our replacement door keys are commonly used with Euro cylinder and rim cylinder locks fitted to UPVC, aluminium, composite and timber doors. These locks are typically found on front doors, back doors, patio doors and bi-fold doors, often combined with multi-point locking systems.

How do I order a replacement door key?

Most door keys have a key code stamped on the key or printed on the original key card supplied with the lock. You can order a replacement key cut directly to this manufacturer’s code for an accurate fit.

My key only works if I lift or push the door handle – is something wrong?

Many doors with multi-point locking systems require the handle to be lifted before the key will fully turn. If you need to push, pull or lift the door significantly for the key to enter or operate, it may indicate door misalignment, worn hinges or pressure on the lock mechanism, rather than an issue with the key itself.

Should I lubricate my door lock?

Regular lubrication helps keep locks operating smoothly and reduces wear on both the key and the lock mechanism. It’s best to first check the lock manufacturer’s recommendation for suitable lubricants.

In most cases, a PTFE-based dry lubricant spray such as GT85 or WD-40 Specialist Dry PTFE works well. Apply a small amount into the keyhole, insert the key several times and operate the lock to distribute the lubricant. Lubricating every 3 months is usually sufficient for most household locks.

What is TS007 and what is the difference between 1-Star and 3-Star locks?

TS007 is a British security standard for Euro cylinder locks and door furniture, designed to improve protection against common burglary methods such as lock snapping.

A 3-Star cylinder provides the highest level of protection within the standard and is designed to resist snapping, drilling and picking on its own.

A 1-Star cylinder offers a lower level of protection by itself and is normally designed to be used together with 2-Star security door handles to achieve the same overall TS007 3-Star level of security.

Why is my key difficult to turn in the lock?

A stiff lock can be caused by lack of lubrication, dirt inside the cylinder, a worn key, or pressure from the door’s multi-point locking system. Cleaning and lightly lubricating the cylinder can often resolve the issue.

Can I order spare door keys even if my original still works?

Yes. Ordering spare keys is recommended so you have a backup if a key is lost or damaged. As long as you have the key code, additional keys can easily be cut to the same specification.
