How to remove a detachable tow bar

Bosal

Replacement keys for the Bosal AK4 and AK11 models are available to order from either the T2001 - T2200 or 001 - 200 code ranges.

For AK4 models

Insert the key and rotate anti-clockwise 90 degrees. Push the handle in and rotate clockwise 180 degrees to retract the locking bolt. The tow bar is then free to be released.

For AK11 & AK40 models

Lift up the white weather cover, insert the key and rotate anti-clockwise 90 degrees. Pull the handle out and rotate clockwise and the tow bar will release.

Brink

Replacement keys for the Thule Brink models are available to order from either the 1D or 3D code ranges.

For BMA model

If the green indicator is shown, insert the key and rotate clockwise 180 degrees and remove key. Push handle inwards and rotate anti-clockwise and pull tow bar towards you in a downward motion to release.

For BMU model

If the green indicator is shown, insert the key and rotate anti-clockwise 180 degrees and remove. Push handle inwards and rotate clockwise and push tow bar down to release.

Land Rover

Replacement keys for the Land Rover OEM tow bars are available to order from the 1D code range.

For Discovery (LR3 and LR4) and Range Rover Sport models (with Green locking handle)

To remove the detachable tow ball, Insert the key and rotate clockwise 90 degrees to the unlock position. Pull the green handle out and rotate anti-clockwise as far as it will turn (approx 90 degrees) and the tow bar will release.

If it doesn't release straight away, hold the green handle in the turned position and jiggle the towball or tap it with a hammer to work free. If the green handle doesn't turn fully after the key has unlocked it there is a good chance the locking pin has seized. Your need to remove the spare wheel and help work it free from the back.

Oris

Replacement keys for the Oris models are available to order from either the T2001 - T2200 or 001 - 200 code ranges.

For Horizontal models

Insert the key and rotate anti-clockwise 90 degrees. Push the handle in and rotate clockwise 180 degrees to retract locking bolt. The tow bar is now free to be released.

For Vertical models

Lift up the white weather cover, insert the key and rotate anti-clockwise 90 degrees. Pull the handle out and rotate clockwise and the tow bar will release.

Westfalia

Replacement Westfalia keys are available to order from the 2W01 - 2W50 and 5 digit corresponding lock code range.

For A40V model

To remove the detachable tow ball insert the key and rotate clockwise 90 degrees. Pull the handle out and rotate clockwise as far as it will turn and the tow bar will release.

For A40H model

To remove the detachable tow ball insert the key and rotate clockwise 90 degrees. Pull the handle out and rotate anti-clockwise as far as it will turn and the tow bar will release.

For A50H model

To remove the detachable tow ball insert the key and rotate clockwise 90 degrees. Push the lever backwards to the red indicator and pull the tow bar to release.

Witter

Replacement Witter keys are available to order from either the ACS or TR series.

For all detachable models

If the tow bar is locked, insert key and rotate clockwise 90 degrees. Push handle inwards and rotate 90 degrees clockwise to release tow bar.
